Every participant in Riding for a Reason is encouraged to enjoy the scenery and the low traffic roads of West Virginia and Southwestern Pennsylvania. We want everyone to be safe during this ride and to ensure their safety, we require each participant to follow some simple rules. Please note that this ride is not a race and is open to all interested cyclists. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible cycling adult. Children under the age of eight (8) must ride on a Tandem, on a Trail along bike, or in a trailer, with an adult over eighteen (18) years of age. - All riders must wear an approved helmet while riding (ANSI or CPSC certified).
- All riders must obey Police, Volunteers or Event Officials instructions.
- All riders must obey traffic control officers & personnel and traffic control devices & signs, unless directed otherwise by an Official.
- All riders are prohibited from crossing a solid yellow line, whether double or single.
- All riders are prohibited from wearing headsets covering or blocking one or both ears (i.e. walkman-type stereos, radios or other devices).
- All riders are prohibited to draft or hold onto a motorized vehicle.
- All riders must give right of way to other road users, including bicycles and motor vehicles when legally required to.
- All riders must yield to emergency vehicles at all times.
- All riders must cycle in single file to the far right of the road when possible.
- All riders should be courteous to drivers of motorized vehicles by allowing them to pass when and where possible.
- All riders should be courteous to other riders by pointing or calling out dangers in the road (i.e. glass, debris, pothole, metal grates) to those behind.
- All riders should use caution when crossing an intersection, traveling downhill, approaching a traffic control signal or sign and/or riding in bad weather (i.e. rain).
- All bicycles should be in good, safe & working order.
